In the plating process using hard chrome additives, localized non-plating is a common problem. This not only affects the aesthetics and uniformity of the plating layer, but also may lead to a decline in product performance and failure to meet the requirements of use. So, why does hard chrome plating have localized non-plating?

The reasons for this may be manifold. First, if parts of the workpiece have insulators partially adhered to them, which prevents current from passing through these shielded areas, then this can result in the inability to deposit the plating layer in its entirety. Secondly, some workpieces have conductive materials that are not positioned properly relative to the workpiece, creating an electrical shield, which can similarly cause the same problem.
