Some customers inquired about what problems would be caused by a too high pH value when using a copper pyrophosphate brightener.

When the pH value is ≥ 9, the range of the bright zone of the plated layer is reduced, especially the high zone is easy to burnish, and the appearance of the plated layer looks rough and loose.

In the production with copper pyrophosphate brightener, when the pH value is higher than 9.5, the plated layer is burnt due to polarization phenomenon, the low current density area is darkened, and the range of brightness is very narrow.

When the pH value is >10, the appearance of the plated layer is dark red and loose, which may be due to the fact that the pH value near the cathode increases sharply with the increase of pH value, so that the concentration of [Cu(P2O7)OH]3-coordinating ions increases and the cathodic polarization decreases, which is easy to be discharged on the cathode.

Therefore, when using Bigely copper pyrophosphate brightener Cu-203, we recommend controlling the pH value in the range of 8.6-9.2, which will help to get a bright and flat copper plating layer.
