Why does the coating peel off when using hard chrome additives?

①No preheating or too short preheating time when the workpiece is put into the tank

For hard chrome plating of large or thick-walled workpieces, the workpieces need to be preheated before plating, otherwise it will not only affect the bonding of the chrome layer, but also affect the temperature of the plating solution.

Steel parts should be preheated before being energized, copper and copper alloy can be preheated in the hot water tank, so that the temperature of the plated parts and the temperature of the plating solution is basically the same, and then energized, the preheating time depends on the size of the workpiece. The temperature change of the plating solution is recommended to be controlled within ±2℃.

Treatment: Before using chrome plating additives, thin-walled workpieces need to be preheated for 3~10min, thick-walled workpieces preheated for 5~15min.

②The plating solution temperature is too low, the current density is too large

When using hard chrome additives, if the temperature of the plating solution is too low and the current density is too high, then the plated layer obtained in the production is in the form of mesh cracks, the hardness of the plated layer is large and brittle, and the plated layer will be easy to peel off.

a. Control of proper plating bath temperature and cathodic current density.
