Why is it not recommended to use hard chrome additives containing fluoride during the production of electroplated hard chrome? This is because of the problems associated with corrosion and stability.
Fluorides are very reactive chemicals. Any fluoride in a strongly acidic chrome plating solution will be converted to form highly corrosive hydrofluoric acid.
Hydrofluoric acid, for one thing, corrodes the deep recesses of complex workpieces (platers refer to this as low-zone corrosion), damaging the workpiece and leading to excessive iron impurities in the plating solution.
Secondly, due to the harmful chromium mist, coupled with the high temperature in the use of hard chrome additives, if the high-current plating for a long time, the temperature exceeds the process specifications, the quality of the plating layer is unqualified. In order to control the temperature of the plating solution within the process range, it is necessary to take cooling measures for the plating solution. Plating plants generally use expensive titanium heating and cooling tubes, but hydrofluoric acid will corrode the passivation layer on top and damage it quickly.
So how do we solve this problem?
